PSFreedom Device Guide – Update on Android Ports & More

Ya’ll need to keep an eye on this PSFreedom Device Guide. You’ll immediately notice the NexusOne (N1) and other HTC phones are using the MSM72K USB controller, which means KaKaRoto & DocMon have made real progress on porting PSFreedom to these devices.

Furthermore…

…the Nokia N900 uses an OMAP CPU/mUSB USB Controller meaning that as Maemo and Android are both Linux OSes the PSFreedom app can be used on OMAP phones like the Motorola Milestone just by compiling the source for your phone here.

However OMAP phones for Android are few and far between. A porting effort was started to port PSFreedom to the MSM72K USB Controller as used on most Qualcomm devices like the Desire/Hero/N1 e.t.c. The port is currently in an experimental stage in that it functions up to a point but runs in to issues with the driver regarding timing. Therefore the port is still as of yet incomplete. The requirements for the MSM72K port is that your phone must be rooted and must run a ROM that supports the custom kernel to be used for PSFreedom. The custom kernel PSFreedom shall use disables (Out of neccesity) USB ADB, USB Mass Storage and USB Tethering. USB Charging is unaffected and file transfer, tethering and ADB over WiFi are unaffected.

S3C devices like the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Spica are as of yet in the very early stages of development.

Good stuff.
